While many new developments have littered the classic "old towns" of Florida's Gold Coast, Gulf Stream's careful planning and zoning throughout the years have ensure that overbuilding hasn't ruined the charm of the town.  In fact, the only new construction development in the Town of Gulf Stream since the 1980's is 4001 North Ocean, which has been designed to compliment the town's architectural style. The Town of Gulf Stream sits on the southeastern part of Palm Beach County and is by choice, modest in size and population. Located east of the Intracoastal Waterway and tucked away between Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, Gulf Stream is a quiet residential community, but close enough to the restaurants, shopping, and nightlife of Delray Beach.

The Town of Gulf Stream's History

The “Town of Gulf Stream” was incorporated in 1931 by Commodore Harold Vanderbilt, great grandson of the shipping and railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt. The Commodore built his magnificent Maurice Fatio-designed ocean front mansion, Villa di Venzia, in Manalapan. The 32,000 square foot Villa di Venzia set the tone for an opulent lifestyle and the magnificent imposing Manalapan estates that now lie along scenic A1A, the main access road through the town.

A modest town of less than a square mile, the Town of Gulf Stream ranked as the 11th highest-income place in the United States in the 2000 census.  Don't be fooled by its size; Gulf Stream has some of the most amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean and is a hidden gem between Delray Beach and Boynton Beach.  In 1992, the two-mile stretch of North Ocean Boulevard (State Road A1A) was designated as a State Historic Scenic Highway in order to preserve and maintain the last remaining Australian pine canopy as well as the original character and beauty of the 1920s Florida oceanside.
